Dariusz Mazurkiewicz is leaving BLIK

After more than nine years at the helm of Polski Standard Płatności, Dariusz Mazurkiewicz is stepping down as CEO of the company responsible for the development of BLIK. The change comes at a time when the system has a strong position in Poland but faces the challenge of further international expansion and growing competition in the European payments market.

Dariusz Mazurkiewicz has stepped down as CEO of Polski Standard Płatności, the operator of BLIK. He had been with the company since 2015 and had led it since June 2017. The name of his successor is to be announced in a separate statement.

The change comes after a period of rapid growth. In 2025, users carried out 2.9 billion transactions worth PLN 441.5 billion, and the number of active users reached 20.7 million. In the first quarter of 2026, BLIK processed a further 756 million transactions, 14 per cent more than a year earlier, with a total value of PLN 117.3 billion. It was already being actively used by 21.1 million people.

For the company, the most important task today is not to build brand recognition in Poland, but to continue scaling its services. BLIK is developing deferred and recurring payments, increasing its presence in brick-and-mortar retail, and opening up access to Slovak e-commerce for Polish customers. It is also testing euro transfers between European payment systems.

The new CEO will take the helm of a company with a strong domestic position, but one facing a more challenging phase of expansion. The European market is rapidly integrating, and solutions such as Wero are gaining tens of millions of users. At the same time, the European Central Bank is promoting a more resilient, competitive and autonomous payment infrastructure.

The resignation itself does not necessarily signal a change in strategy, but it does highlight the importance of a smooth handover. Delays in decision-making could slow the pace of expansion and cooperation with banks. A smooth handover, on the other hand, could allow BLIK to capitalise on the moment when national payment systems begin to compete on a European scale.
