Microsoft is quietly redefining the visual identity of its browser, which could herald a wider shift in design strategy in Redmond. The latest developer versions of Edge (the Canary and Dev channels) see a deep integration of the aesthetics familiar from the Copilot app.
As Windows Central notes, this is not just a superficial overlay, but a systemic redesign of the interface.
The experimental design introduces the AI assistant’s signature rounded corners, specific typography and a refreshed colour palette. These changes include key navigation elements, including the context menu, new tab page and settings panel.
Importantly, the new style is being implemented as the default standard, regardless of whether the user is actively using the AI features.
The move suggests that Microsoft is moving away from the strict adherence to Fluent Design principles associated with Windows 11 in favour of visual consistency built around the Copilot brand. AI is no longer just a feature and is becoming the foundation of UX.
Currently, the refreshed interface remains in the testing phase and a date for its implementation into the stable version of Edge has not yet been confirmed.
