The PZU Supervisory Board has appointed Piotr Matczuk as a member of the Management Board with effect from 1 September 2026. His term of office will cover three full financial years: 2027–2029. Matczuk has around 20 years’ experience in the financial sector, including at PFR, IFC and the EBRD. Since 2024, he has headed the Polish Development Fund, where his responsibilities included investment projects and cooperation with the private and public sectors.
The timing of the appointment is significant. PZU is currently undergoing a major organisational and technological transformation. The Group is implementing its strategy for 2025–2027, which aims to simplify its structure, grow its core business and develop digital channels. At the same time, the integration of PZU with LINK4 is underway, as are preparations for the Group’s reorganisation with Bank Pekao. The deadline for the potential transaction has been postponed to the end of 2027.
This management change is not taking place against a backdrop of poor results. In 2025, the PZU Group achieved a record PLN 6.7 billion in net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company, whilst in the first quarter of 2026 this figure stood at nearly PLN 1.4 billion.
Matczuk’s experience in infrastructure financing, private equity and venture capital may prove useful at a time when PZU is combining reorganisation with investments in digitalisation, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. However, the appointment does not necessarily signal a change in strategy. Its significance will only become clear once responsibilities within the board have been allocated and the first decisions regarding investments and the group’s further restructuring have been taken.
