Progress Software acquires Nuclia, strengthening AI portfolio and RAG technology

RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) technology is becoming the standard in combating AI hallucinations in the business environment. Progress Software is following this trend by launching Agentic RAG, a ready-to-use, “code-free” solution for building systems based on this architecture.

Progress Software, known for its developer tools and infrastructure software, has unveiled Progress Agentic RAG, a new SaaS platform designed to make it easier for companies to use generative artificial intelligence based on their own internal data.

It is a move that is part of the market trend of democratising access to advanced AI technologies.

The problem of data chaos

Businesses are grappling with the exponential growth of data, often unstructured and dispersed in formats ranging from text documents to video files to audio recordings. Using large-scale language models (LLMs) to analyse them is problematic.

Without access to the corporate context, these models generate answers that are unreliable or unhelpful.

With help comes Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology, which ‘grounds’ AI responses in specific, validated sources. However, RAG implementations to date have often required specialist knowledge and significant resources, which has been a barrier for smaller companies and teams.

An agent that simplifies the process

The Progress platform addresses this problem by offering an approach based on so-called AI agents and ‘no-code’ mechanisms. This means that users do not need advanced programming skills to implement the system. The agents automate the process of extracting, indexing and searching data in multiple languages and formats.

At the heart of the solution is the specialised database NucliaDB, a technology acquired by Progress with the acquisition of Nuclia in 2023. It enables not only vector storage, but also advanced semantic search and knowledge graph analysis. The platform integrates with leading LLM models and includes built-in tools to monitor the quality of the generated answers.

AI for each department

Progress Agentic RAG is offered on a subscription model, with prices starting at US$700 per month to lower the entry threshold. The solution is available on the AWS Marketplace, among others.

Potential applications cover a wide spectrum of business activities: from automating customer service and speeding up sales cycles through product recommendations to supporting legal departments in document analysis or facilitating induction processes for new employees.

The aim is to turn internal information chaos into a useful and reliable decision-support tool.
