Relations between Zondacrypto and the Polish Olympic Committee are once again under scrutiny following revelations by WP and TVN24 regarding expensive gifts and alleged ‘lobbying’ at the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK).
According to a joint media investigation, Przemysław Kral, the head of Zondacrypto, is alleged to have bought a Patek Philippe watch worth 40,000 euros for Radosław Piesiewicz, the president of the Polish Olympic Committee. The total value of benefits for Piesiewicz and his relatives, including tickets, hotels and transport, is said to have amounted to between 190,000 and 216,000 zlotys. Piesiewicz denies this and claims that he paid Kral for the watch in cash from his own funds.
The most serious allegation, however, concerns the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK). According to journalists’ findings, Piesiewicz is said to have offered to help resolve Zondacrypto’s issues with the authority. UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny denied that either Piesiewicz or Mateusz Morawiecki had intervened in the matter. Furthermore, the authority is said to have previously passed on information concerning the exchange to the Internal Security Agency (ABW).
The business relationship between the parties was official. In October 2025, Zondacrypto became the main sponsor of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) and the national Olympic team, and the collaboration also included the TeamPL token project.
This new information comes to light at a time when the exchange itself is the subject of a wide-ranging investigation. In April, the Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into allegations of fraud and money laundering; by June, it had registered over 3,600 reports and secured more than 250 TB of data.
For the market, therefore, the case goes beyond personal relationships. It may increase pressure for greater scrutiny of sponsorship, transparency in dealings with public institutions, and the way in which organisations assess the reputational risk posed by partners in the crypto sector.
